"Bye mommy, bye daddy" I remember saying. "Bye Tommy we love you" Said my parents."We will see you in 7 days." Or so I thought. As I stood beside my grandparents I waved goodbye to my parents as they boarded the train.
On month later I remember staring out my window waiting and hoping that my parents would return. "It's no use honey" My grandma said. "they are not coming back."I could feel the tears welling up in my eyes as I gave her a hug. "I miss them so much." I wailed.
You can imagine how devastated I was at only seven years of age, but never I forgot. Every once in a while I would go back to the deserted train track that went across the lake. I would try look beyond the fog to see the other side but was never lucky. All I could ever see was a mysterious castle that almost looked surreal in the distance. Sometimes I would swear I was dreaming because no one else could ever see it. Maybe it was a sign to go and see. No one ever went there except for me and my grandparents. As I grew older I got more curious.
I got my best friend, James, to help me build a cart with a sail that would sit on the train tracks and sail along the rail road tracks . It took us two and a half months to build the cart but it was worth it. My grandma tried to convince to take her and my grandpa along.
As the two of us got into the cart with our eight peanut butter and jelly sandwiches I said goodbye to my grandparents. I had to think to myself if it was the right choice to leave without them. Surprisingly my grandparents just jumped in without saying anything."We are coming along weather you want us to or not." Said my Grandpa. "Good"I answered."I hoped you would". Soon enough the wind picked up and we were off across the tracks at high speed.
Finally after one and a half hours of sudden wind gusts we saw land. It was dark and deserted. we could see that the train track went through an arch way of trees. So we decided to keep going along the tracks. As soon as we passed through it we all felt a sudden shock of electricity. We were somewhere else. " I think we went through a vortex." Said James in a worried voice. " I read about them but I didn't think they were real." He hoped out and went back through the arch but he was still in the different time. Once you enter, you can't get back.
We could hear noise in the distance. Just a while down the tracks is when we found what we were looking for. We saw the train tipped over beside the tracks. I got out and ran over. I jumped on top and tried to open the door, but it was too rusted over. My grandpa climbed up beside me and helped me unbolt the rusty old door. As we opened it up the smell of decaying bodies rushed out. "Their dead." I whispered at the sight of the carcasses. I hoped in and found where they had been sitting. In the very last row sat their bodies.
I looked around and saw that there were bodies piled up everywhere except for where my parents were. Surely there weren't this many people on board the train. I shuffled back over to the door and climbed out.
I wanted to find that castle and see what and who were in it. As we got closer the castle looked more and more real. This time my James and my grandparents could see it as well.
When we got there, there were guards with spears standing along the front castle wall, not letting anyone enter. We were hiding behind a large wall of bushes peering through a small peep hole. "We must get through." I told my companions. My grandparents told me to go without them because they would not be able to keep up. I said goodbye and that I loved them.
James and I found our way around the bushes and found a small door at the back of the castle surrounded by a guard. James picked up a rock before I could say anything and chucked it at his head. In an instant he was on the ground, out cold.
We snuck to the door and slowly opened it. We could hear noise coming from down the hallway. As we crept along trying not to get caught we found a small hiden stair case."It looks like a secret passage way" I whispered. "Lets go". We tiptoed up the narrow staircase about ten steps and stopped at a dead end. "This can't be, there must be a button or lever or something" James whispered. "Lets look around" I replied.
